Google Maps in Classifieds
When searching for items, people want to know exactly where and how far they will need to travel. Sometimes, a listing will be in a different and unfamiliar city to others. That’s where adding a map with the item location comes in handy. The new version of our classifieds script AJ classified V4 has an integrated Google Maps feature. This helps showing the item directly on the map. Your classifieds site members will be able to easily zoom in and out, and get directions and travel times for each listing.
How to use Google Maps Effectively In Classifieds
Ensure your advertisement is found
When posting an advertisement you have the choice of several address fields which can be used to show your product of service through Google Maps. The map can be accessed in several places on the Classifieds web site. Visitors to the Classifieds can also use the map to review any items available, so when filling out an advertisement ensure you fill it out as detailed as possible.
Using the feature
It isn’t required that you use all the fields. The zip code is the only required information, and is used to show visitors what item is available along with it’s location. Providing this information is perfectly safe, as the zip code covers a large geographic area and doesn’t pin point it’s exact location.
Currently, the following fields utilize the Google GPS Mapping feature.
The postal zip code field: This field is required.
The address field: This field is recommended for businesses and organizations. For safety reasons, it is NOT recommended for homeowners.
The latitude and longitude field: This field is optional. If you’ve used the address field and your location is found by Google, you can ignore this. If Google does not find your address, you can simply input your latitude and longitude information and your location will appear. This field is recommended for businesses and organizations. For safety reasons, it is not recommended for homeowners.
Thus using Google Maps feature for your classified ads will help find the posted item location.
